When Getting Lost Is Not An Option
Star Bulldog now offers Microchip ID services for you Bulldog. You can either come to us if you already have purchased your bulldog, or have one put in before purchasing one. Here is all the information you need to know about Avid Microchip ID'ing.
Avid Microchip ID Services
Avid stands for 'American Veterinary Identification Device" which is a tiny microchip with an identification number programed into it. This provides a permanent, positive identification which can't be lost, altered, or intionally removed. Avid is a safe and and inexpensive way to protect your pet against theft or loss.
The ID number in the microchip is never duplicated, and contains a unique number, so no two animals can ever be the same. A radio signal is used to read this number through the skin of your pet. In addition to the number, the microchip generates a reliability check to guarantee that your pet's identifying number is read accurately. This all takes place in less than 40 milliseconds.
What are the fee's for Micro-chipping?
The fee's are different, and range differently depending on what your here for. If you are in-planting the chip into your puppy while buying it the price is $40. If you are coming to us with a puppy you have previously purchased from us since we just started offering this, the cost it $30.
Frequently Asked Avid Microchip Questions
How long does the Avid Chip Last? Once Avid is injected under the skin of your pet, it becomes encased in a thin layer of protein which anchors it there for the rest of your pets life. It can be expected to last for decades, and past the lifespan of your pet.
When Can I Inject My Pet With Avid? Animals of any age. Puppies and Kittens, during their vaccinal periods, and birds, horses, and other exotic animals, at any time.
Does My Pet Have To Be Sedated For The Injection? NO! Absolutely not. Injecting the avid chip is like getting any regular vaccine. Anesthesia is not required nor recommended.
Does The Procedure Hurt My Pet? Not at all. It creates a slight discomfort that most pets don't even react to.
Can my pet be allergic to Avid? There virtually no chance since the chip is inert and bio-compatible.
How do I know the shelter will be able to check for the AVID Microchip? AVID offers an innovative program designed to place readers in shelters at no cost to the shelter, or the taxpayer! Area veterinarians and AVID are donating readers to shelters that promise to check animals for the AVID Microchips.
If my pet is found, how does the shelter know to contact me? When a shelter finds a pet with a microchip they will call AVID. If the pet is registered with AVlD's recovery network, PETtrac, the shelter will be given the owner's name. If the pet is not registered, they will be given the name of the veterinarian who injected the microchip. The veterinarian will provide the owner's latest information.
What is PETtrac? PETtrac is a global computerized tracking system for companion animals identified with the AVID Microchip. When you become a member, PETtrac can reunite your pets directly with you.
What is the cost to register with PETtrac? You pay a one-time fee of $19.95 for a single pet or $50.00 for all your pets (up to 3 pets). There are no annual fees. There is, however, a $6.00 charge for information changes. Change of ownership requires a new registration. Animal recovery workers can find your pet's family directly rather than through your veterinarian.
What happens if I'm on vacation and my pet is found at the shelter? PETtrac maintains "an alternate contact" information. Your pet would be released to your authorized representative to insure its well-being. Your pet is protected even when you are not at home, no matter what the reason.
What is the Avid 'Breeder Reader'? Breeder Readers are a special program offered to breeders in the USA to make it easier to operate in compliance with AKC requirements
